Performance doesn’t improve because we say it must. It doesn’t improve because the graphs tell us it must. It doesn’t improve simply because jobs are threatened.
Performance happens when the context is conducive, when anxiety is down and the will to work is high. Relationships make performance possible.
When people are anxious, when fear is the driver, our only response whether as children or employees is fight, flight or freeze.
For employees, since we aren’t allowed to fight and running away isn’t really an option, it usually means we freeze. We keep going with routines, and we do what we are specifically told to do, but we don’t perform.
Tasks and standards tell us what to do, but the will to do it and to put every effort into it comes from the context, the energy that relationships give us, the desire to make a difference in this place with this team.
Simply Communicate’s wide range of training interventions and consulting options focusses on driving the will (or volition) of your team, whether managers or employees.
With Simply Communicate, content is secondary to engagement. The processes introduced must feel natural, integrate with the culture and direction of the organisation and become second nature.
